Recruitment

My name is Faith Goumas and I am the Vice President of Recruitment for the Iota Phi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Quinnipiac University. When I went through the recruitment process, I met the women of our chapter and admired how well-rounded they were as students and sorority women; it was so evident how proud they were to be so actively involved in their organization, and that is what inspired me to join them. The sisterhood that they showed me was undeniable, and for an underclassman trying to find her place, I found where I belonged with Alpha Chi Omega. The women of Alpha Chi live by our brand- real, strong women- everyday, and we aim to recruit women with those qualities as well.

Our chapter prides itself on the bond that the sisters share. As college students, the sisters have a variety of academic backgrounds, involvement in various organizations, and a mix of personalities, but Alpha Chi Omega serves as a solid home base to all of them. The sisters of Iota Phi all strive to uphold and live by our five membership criteria: character, leadership, personal development, academic interest, and financial responsibility. Alpha Chi provides the women of our sisterhood opportunities to become involved with committees, take on leadership roles, and to bond with the other women of the organization at chapter events throughout the semester. Iota Phi has developed a strong alumni base which offers the sisters an amazing network of successful women who can help them in their post-graduation endeavors.

Alpha Chi Omega has made my college experience unforgettable and complete. The sisterhood has taught me skills that I’ll use far beyond my college years and it has connected me with women that I’ll be friends with for the rest of my life. The women of our chapter are proud to be members of Alpha Chi Omega and we want to share that pride with future members of our organization.

The Membership Selection Process...

When a young woman accepts a bid for membership in Alpha Chi Omega, she is welcomed and accepted as she is, and she will never be expected to fit a specific mold. Potential new members are selected for membership in Alpha Chi after meeting our five national standards of membership. The sisters of Alpha Chi, Iota Phi Chapter included, all exemplify to the best of our ability the personal qualities of character, leadership, academic interest, personal development and financial responsibility.

After receiving a bid from Alpha Chi, new members participate in an education program meant to help them make a smooth transition to college life and a lifetime membership in Alpha Chi Omega. This includes education on the history of Alpha Chi Omega nationally and at Quinnipiac University, as well as sisterhood events and socials.

New members receive a "guardian" on Bid Day who helps welcomes them to sisterhood! This sister is one of four buddies a new member will receive. Bid Day starts the beginning of the Alpha, Chi, and Omega weeks, with buddies for each week. These buddies are typically sisters who will be looking to take a new member as their little sister in the chapter. This allows sisters an opportunity to get to know the new members and the new members an opportunity to get to know the sisters!

Soon after Omega Week, new members and chapter members taking a little sister are matched through a mutually selective process. We then have a Big Sis/ Lil Sis Revealing Week, where new members get clues about who their new Big Sis may be. Revealing Night is very special and everyone enjoys it.

The Vice President Education and the Assistant Vice President Education oversee all new member education. These women are dedicated to showing our new members just how much Alpha Chi means to each of its sisters.
